On the 14th September 2011 – residents of Kensal Rise met for the first time over wine, tea and cake to discuss the formation of a new association for the local area. The turnout was good – enthusiasm was high and our front room, the venue for the occasion was full to capacity with lots of new faces from the neighbourhood – and a few familiar ones too.
The meeting kicked off with an intro from Rik Smith – one of the instigators of the Association and a brief introduction from everyone else in the room. Simon Green – one of our local Councillors had also joined the meeting to help provide some tips about successful running of an Association such as setting realistic geographical boundaries and focusing our goals before nipping off to another group meeting.
We then moved on to discuss points such as what to call ourselves, which parts of Kensal Rise to include and issues that effect the area that people felt passionate about like lack of trees in certain roads, litter, speeding traffic and noisy buses to name but a few. Agreements were made by different groups and individuals to make further enquiries to representatives from our Council looking after the above mentioned issues to find out what their future plans are for the area - so it could be discussed at the next meeting.
Its early days with still much to be decided for the Association but KRRA’s first gathering was a step in the right direction. Til the next gathering!
